148:13   Let them praise the name of Hashem

Psalm 148 can be divided into two parts. The first half speaks of Hashem being praised in the celestial spheres, while the second half speaks of human praises of God. Though both seemingly exalt Him the same way, as it says, “let them praise the name of Hashem” (verses 5 and 13), the praises are actually very different. The angels exalt God “for it was He who commanded that they be created.” They are robotically programmed to sing Hashem’s praises. Humans, on the other hand, worship Him because they see the beauty of creation, understand God’s compassion and voluntarily choose to sing His praises. We are all recipients of God’s love and His bounty. It is our duty to recognize what He gives us and to sing His praises.

  • I don't believe God made anyone in a robotic fashion. The Bible shows me the Angels had a choice to follow God or reject Him, just as we have the same choice to accept or reject. Adam and Eve had a choice, either obey or believe the Adversary. They chose the latter. We didn't have that choice, we were born with a sin nature. Through the death of Yeshua at the Cross, we have all have been given the choice to accept Him or reject Him. YHWH cannot and will not force anyone to accept Him, giving us a free will to choose. Not a robotic programmed response. May His love touch all.

  • I do not think that the Angels were programmed to sing and praise God robotic-ally. I say this because i always thought Angels had free will since Lucifer, Turned against God and a third of the Angels followed him and fell to Earth as a punishment from God for there rebellion. No? This would mean they had free will and were not robotic-ally programmed to sing? So Angels sang praises from there hearts also out of Love for God? I really want to know? God is always being praised by heavenly spheres. The 24 elders, the 4 living beasts with all the eyes. And all other residents of the Heavens that perhaps we are yet unaware of. I am sorry, but I am not aware of this part of the Jewish understandings of Heavens inhabited. But I can simply imagine how much all of creation truly loves God and would sing a song of there love of God and all His mighty works.

Now the second half speaks of our human praise of God. Thought both as we are told may be to be the same, and on some level, yes they are. there is some differences The Angles praise God because he but spoke and they were created. Spoken into creation. . Humans praise Him because they first they were formed by the very hand of God from the elements of the Earth that God himself created from hand. And man can see this creation and thank him for this, his creation. Also God created man in His own image. Letting man know that we have something in common with God in a very basic level as in being a very handcrafted article made by God. We sing God praises and worship God because we see all that he is and has done for us. How much God truly loves us. We see what God gives us out of love and His Kindness. It is our duty as his children to realize in our very being to see what he has given us and to realize how much we truly need him, need to gather to him, need to tell him in the form of worship him how much we would be truly nothing and lost without him. Amen. Carl
