1For the leader; on Yedutun. A psalm of David.

אלַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ עַֽל־יְדוּת֗וּן מִזְמ֥וֹר לְדָוִֽד׃

62:1   Yedutun

Who sang these Tehillim, and where? The name Yedutun, mentioned in the title of this psalm, might provide some insight. In Sefer Divrei Hayamim I 25, we find a listing of positions that David gives to the Leviim as part of their service in the house of the Lord. The three main Levite families mentioned are the house of Asaf, the house of Hayman and the house of Yedutun, “who prophesied to the accompaniment of lyres, harps, and cymbals…who, accompanied on the harp, prophesied, praising and extolling Hashem” (25:1,3). The house of God in Jerusalem, will become a permanent structure when his son, Shlomo, builds the Beit Hamikdash on Mount Moriah. There, the Leviim will fill the steps of the Beit Hamikdash with songs of praise, musical accompaniment and rejoicing.
