59:1 To watch his house in order to put him to death
Although he is being chased by Shaul who openly states his desire to kill him, David is saved by individuals who love him and seek his welfare. Two such personalities appear in Shmuel I 19, and are, ironically, Shaul’s son Yonatan and his daughter Michal, David’s wife. When Shaul reveals his desire to kill David to his son, Yonatan recognizes the impending danger and warns David to hide. And when Shaul sends assassins to kill David in his home, Michal lowers her husband from the bedroom window by a rope and saves him from harm. David concludes his psalm with a declaration that he will continue to sing of God’s greatness, since Hashem continues to save him and have mercy on him.
