Psalms 113

1Hallelujah. O servants of Hashem, give praise; praise the name of Hashem.

ha-l'-lu-YAH ha-l'-LU av-DAY a-do-NAI ha-l'-LU et SHAYM a-do-NAI

113:1   O servants of Hashem, give praise

The first verse of this psalm calls on the servants of Hashem to bless the name of Hashem. This reflects a synthesis of the previous two psalms, one focusing on God, and the other on people who fear God. In this psalm, God is raised above all nations, and, at the same time, He raises up the humble and poor in status and in spirit. This is another expression of the vital partnership between Hashem and His people.

2Let the name of Hashem be blessed now and forever.

3From east to west the name of Hashem is praised.

4Hashem is exalted above all nations; His glory is above the heavens.

5Who is like Hashem our God, who, enthroned on high,

6sees what is below, in heaven and on earth?

7He raises the poor from the dust, lifts up the needy from the refuse heap

8to set them with the great, with the great men of His people.

9He sets the childless woman among her household as a happy mother of children. Hallelujah.
