 134:1   Now bless Hashem

Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch notes how similar in size, and complementary in message, this psalm is to the previous one. Each of these short psalms contains only three verses and focuses on Israel’s dwelling in the Land of Israel. However, Psalm 133 speaks of the interpersonal element, while Psalm 134 reminds us that the spiritual element must be present as well. Psalm 133 presents the social component of Zionism, which is how the land was built up in the modern era: “How good and how pleasant it is that brothers dwell together.” And each of the verses of Psalm 134 speaks of blessing Hashem, to remind us that the spiritual component of returning to the land must complement the social one. When both aspects are present, says Hirsch, God will bring down the heavenly blessing from Tzion.

  • 134:1 All ye servants of the Lord

How lucky are, Israel, to dwell in this Holy land forever? We live here not only in our body with our families, we live here in our hearts and in our souls. Our spirits have found peace here with our Lord thy God. Israel is our Home with God. How wonderful is it know that we can sit with our brother in council. To be with people of like thought and traditions. To be of one God and partake of His blessings and promises. This land, this Holy land binds us to God in so many wonderful ways.
It holds us to g ether in harmony as well as feeds our spirit with the Grace of God each and every day. This land is God given land. It radiates of His promise He made to the Patriarchs so long ago. A promise that He made and kept. We the Jewish people are the land and vice versa. God has indeed blessed Israel through the land when God's people and the land combine and become one in nation and in spirit as in there love and determination to serve God always. Amen. Carl
