1  In that day, this song shall be sung In the land of Yehuda: Ours is a mighty city; He makes victory our inner and outer wall.

2  Open the gates, and let A righteous nation enter, [A nation] that keeps faith.

pit-KHU sh’-a-REEM v’-ya-VO goy tza-DEEK sho-MAYR e-mu-NEEM

3  The confident mind You guard in safety, In safety because it trusts in You.

4  Trust in Hashem for ever and ever, For in Yah Hashem you have an everlasting Rock.

5  For He has brought low those who dwelt high up, Has humbled the secure city, Humbled it to the ground, Leveled it with the dust—

6  To be trampled underfoot, By the feet of the needy, By the soles of the poor.

7  The path is level for the righteous man; O Just One, You make smooth the course of the righteous.

8  For Your just ways, Hashem, we look to You; We long for the name by which You are called.

9  At night I yearn for You with all my being, I seek You with all the spirit within me. For when Your judgments are wrought on earth, The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

10  But when the scoundrel is spared, he learns not righteousness; In a place of integrity, he does wrong— He ignores the majesty of Hashem.

11  Hashem! They see not Your hand exalted. Let them be shamed as they behold Your zeal for Your people And fire consuming Your adversaries.

12  Hashem! May You appoint well-being for us, Since You have also requited all our misdeeds.

13  Hashem our God! Lords other than You possessed us, But only Your name shall we utter.

14  They are dead, they can never live; Shades, they can never rise; Of a truth, You have dealt with them and wiped them out, Have put an end to all mention of them.

15  When You added to the nation, Hashem, When You added to the nation, Extending all the boundaries of the land, You were honored.

16  Hashem! In their distress, they sought You; Your chastisement reduced them To anguished whispered prayer.

17  Like a woman with child Approaching childbirth, Writhing and screaming in her pangs, So are we become because of You, Hashem.

18  We were with child, we writhed— It is as though we had given birth to wind; We have won no victory on earth; The inhabitants of the world have not come to life!

19  Oh, let Your dead revive! Let corpses arise! Awake and shout for joy, You who dwell in the dust!— For Your dew is like the dew on fresh growth; You make the land of the shades come to life.

20  Go, my people, enter your chambers, And lock your doors behind you. Hide but a little moment, Until the indignation passes.

21  For lo! Hashem shall come forth from His place To punish the dwellers of the earth For their iniquity; And the earth shall disclose its bloodshed And shall no longer conceal its slain.

Verse 9b: …for when Your judgments are wrought on earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

Conversely, when the judgments of HaShem are NOT wrought on earth, the inhabitants learn evil; wickedness prevails and is accepted as convention, normal.

Verse 2: Open the gates, and let arighteous nation enter, [A nation] that keeps faith.
    Moderator’s Comment:
    26:2 A righteous nation
Israel’s first Chief Rabbi, Abraham Isaac Kook, expounds upon the nature of righteousness, described in beautiful poetry in this verse. “The purely righteous do not complain about evil, but increase justice. They do not complain about godlessness, but increase faith. They do not complain about ignorance, but increase wisdom.” Let us strive to become “purely righteous” by increasing justice, faith and wisdom in this world.

Psalms 118:19-20: “Open the gates of victory for me that I may enter them and praise Hashem. This is the gateway to Hashem—the victorious shall enter through it.”

Most people when asked if they believe in HaShem are wont to reply in the affirmative. But believing IN HaShem and BELIEVING HaShem are two quite different subject areas. Faith—believing HaShem—is the gate through which the victorious (purely righteous) enter. So, how does one become “purely righteous”? He believes HaShem—takes Him at His Word.

Verse 3 has been my staying verse for years, as long as I put the Creator God first in my thoughts, and continue to hold fast to His word, I dwell in perfect peace.

This has also been the verse for me. I was praying this morning asking HaShem to keep my heart, my mind set on Him. To not stray to the left or the right, to be sold out to Him and Him alone. Right after my prayer a friend call and said the Lord gave her The whole chapter, so I am reading it all again. I posted verse 2 on Facebook, most of the time it doesn't go through but today I posted it universal.
