45 just as you saw how a stone was hewn from the mountain, not by hands, and crushed the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold. The great Hashem has made known to the king what will happen in the future. The dream is sure and its interpretation reliable.”

2:45 A stone was hewn from the mountain, not by hands
Nebuchadnezzar dreams of a statue whose body is comprised of various metals. This dream is a preview of world history. The metals correspond to the four main world powers: The head, made of gold, corresponds to Babylonia, the first kingdom to rule the entire known world and defeat the nation of Israel. The chest and arms, fashioned from silver, is symbolic of the Persian-Median empire which defeats the Babylonians. The bronze stomach and thighs represent the Greeks, and the iron legs symbolize the Romans. The clay toes allude to the fact that at the end of the final exile, the Arabs will gain power. As the vision continues, a rock cut from the mountain hits the toes, which symbolizes Israel and the rule of Mashiach. According to Rabbi Yitzchak Abrabanel, the rock is cut from the mountain without human intervention, teaching that the final redemption will come about directly from Hashem.
