About the Month of Tevet

Tevet is the fourth month of the Hebrew year (or the tenth month when counting from Nissan). The name Tevet is of Babylonian origin, corresponding to the constellation of the Goat (Capricorn), visible in the night sky during this lunar month. Tevet usually overlaps the solar months of December and January.

Tevet, along with its original name, appears in the Book of Esther:

“Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus, in his royal palace, in the tenth month, which is the month of Tevet, in the seventh year of his reign.” (Esther 2:16)
