7  And Hashem, incensed with Yisrael, surrendered them to the Philistines and to the Ammonites.

va-yi-khar AF a-do-NAI b’-yis-ra-AYL va-yim-k’-RAYM b’-yad p’-lish-TEEM u-v’-YAD b’-NAY a-MON

ז  וַיִּחַר־אַף יְהֹוָה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּמְכְּרֵם בְּיַד־פְּלִשְׁתִּים וּבְיַד בְּנֵי עַמּוֹן׃

10:7   Surrendered them to the Philistines

The Philistines are one of the Israelites’ long-term enemies. It is interesting to note, however, that they are not among the seven Canaanite nations who initially inhabited the land. Rather, they are a foreign nation that invaded Eretz Yisrael via sea. Yet despite being neither natives nor the recipients of God’s promise of the land, they often succeed in persecuting the Children of Israel and holding large amounts of territory in its land. However, in every case, Hashem eventually saves the People of Israel from their enemy.
