Bethel appears throughout the Bible as a special location for prayer. Abraham called out in God’s name in Bethel, and Bethel is named as the place where Jacob dreamed of angels going up and down a ladder. When the kingdom of Israel split, Jeroboam made two golden calves to deter the people of his kingdom from going to the Temple in Jerusalem. He placed one in Bethel at the southern border of his kingdom.
The Israel Bible is the world’s first Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) centered around the Land of Israel, the People of Israel, and the dynamic relationship between them.
