We find allusion to a united Jerusalem in Psalms 122:3.

יְרוּשָׁלַ ִם הַבְּנוּיָה כְּעִיר שֶׁחֻבְּרָה־לָּהּ יַחְדָּו׃

Alternate Names for Yom Yerushalayim
  • Yom Shichrur Yerushalayim – “The Day of Jerusalem’s Liberation”
  • Yom Cheirut Yerushalayim – “The Day of Jerusalem’s Freedom”
  • Yom Ichud Yerushalayim – “The Day of Jerusalem’s Unification”

Customs of Yom Yerushalayim
  • Prayers – Some communities have the custom to add extra prayers to the service like Hallel and certain Psalms e.g. 107.
  • March of the Flags – Some people take part in a celebratory flag march from Gan Sachar, a park in central Jerusalem, to the Western Wall. This is accompanied by israeli flags, music and dancing.
