4:18   Do not let the group of Kehatite clans be cut off from the Leviim

The children of Kehat, one of the three sons of Levi, are responsible for the most sacred parts of the Mishkan, including the Holy of Holies and the Aron. When the people break camp and begin a new journey, the Kohathites must dismantle the Holy of Holies and cover the Aron. However, due to its elevated holiness they are required to do so without viewing the inside of the Holy of Holies, since merely looking at it carries the strictest of penalties. Interestingly, Moshe and Aharon are the ones who are commanded, “Do not let the group of Kohathite clans be cut off…” They are the ones responsible for making sure that the Kohathites do not mistakenly look into the Holy of Holies and incur the death penalty. Not only does Hashem care about the life of every individual, He holds us all responsible for looking out for, and caring about, each other.

19Do this with them, that they may live and not die when they approach the most sacred objects: let Aharon and his sons go in and assign each of them to his duties and to his porterage.
