9:23   And the Presence of the Lord appeared to all the people

Model of the Mishkan in Timna Park

The purpose of the Mishkan in the desert, and the Beit Hamikdash in Yerushalayim, is to serve as a fixed resting place for Hashem’s presence on earth. The commandment to build the Mishkan directly follows the revelation at Sinai, since, according to Ramban, the Mishkan constitutes the continuation of the revelation at Sinai. While the Divine Presence rested briefly on Mount Sinai, it found a long-term home in the Mishkan, and ultimately a permanent dwelling on the Temple Mount in Yerushalayim.

24Fire came forth from before Hashem and consumed the burnt offering and the fat parts on the mizbayach. And all the people saw, and shouted, and fell on their faces.
