1Hashem spoke to Moshe, saying:

22:32   That I may be sanctified in the midst of the B’nei Yisrael

Rashi (1040-1105)

This verse addresses the imperative to sanctify the name of Hashem. Rashi comments that the juxtaposition of the command to make Hashem’s name holy with the statement “I am Hashem… Who brought you out of the land of Egypt” implies that God took the Children of Israel out of Egypt on condition that they sanctify His name. According to the Talmud (Yoma 86a), the primary way to sanctify Hashem’s name is through ensuring that one’s behavior reflects positively upon Hashem. One must act in accordance with His commandments and treat others with kindness, consideration and honesty. The mandate to sanctify God’s name guides the State of Israel, and the IDF in particular, to hold itself to the highest standards of morality.

33I who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God, I Hashem.
