19:50   They gave him the town that he asked for

Tomb of Yehoshua in Kifl Hares, thought to be biblical Timnat Serach

As the leader of the people, Yehoshua waits until the end of the process of dividing the land before receiving his own inheritance. He asks for Timnat Serach (Timnath-serah), in the mountains of Efraim, and through the lots, Hashem grants his request. However, unlike others who inherited existing towns built by the Canaanites, Yehoshua would not be able to simply move in; first, he needs to build the city. This is the task of leaders — to build something where nothing currently exists. In contemporary in Israel, many modern religious, political and business leaders have followed this model, and like Yehoshua, have been blessed by Hashem with success. In the context of the miraculous growth of the State of Israel, many communities, schools, organizations and institutions, as well as fertile farmland and stunning landscapes, have risen out of nothingness.

51These are the portions assigned by lot to the tribes of Yisrael by the Kohen Elazar, Yehoshua son of Nun, and the heads of the ancestral houses, before Hashem at Shilo, at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
