1Then David consulted with the officers of the thousands and the hundreds, with every chief officer.
2David said to the entire assembly of Yisrael, “If you approve, and if Hashem our God concurs, let us send far and wide to our remaining kinsmen throughout the territories of Yisrael, including the Kohanim and Leviim in the towns where they have pasturelands, that they should gather together to us

13:2 That they should gather together to us
King David assembled the People of Israel before bringing the Aron HaBrit to its resting place in Yerushalayim. The Ark is the symbol of the covenant between the Children of Israel and God, as it says, “And deposit in the Aron [the tablets of] the Pact which I will give you” (Exodus 25:16). The verses in Exodus continue to elaborate about the function of the Aron: “There I will meet with you, and I will impart to you—from above the cover, from between the two cherubim that are on top of the Aron HaBrit” (Exodus 25:22). Since the Lord continues to communicate with the people from above the Aron after the revelation at Sinai, this means that the Ark is the means through which He expresses His continued commitment to the covenant and His closeness with the people. David therefore felt that the entire nation should take part in the ceremony marking the transference of the Ark to Yerushalayim.
3in order to transfer the Aron of our God to us, for throughout the days of Shaul we paid no regard to it.”
4The entire assembly agreed to do so, for the proposal pleased all the people.
5David then assembled all Yisrael from Shihor of Egypt to Lebo-hamath, in order to bring the Aron of Hashem from Kiryat Ye'arim.
6David and all Yisrael went up to Baalah, Kiryat Ye'arim of Yehuda, to bring up from there the Aron of Hashem, Hashem, Enthroned on the Keruvim, to which the Name was attached.
7They transported the Aron of Hashem on a new cart from the house of Avinadav; Uzza and Ahio guided the cart,
8and David and all Yisrael danced before Hashem with all their might—with songs, lyres, harps, timbrels, cymbals, and trumpets.
9But when they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzza put out his hand to hold the Aron of Hashem because the oxen had stumbled.
10Hashem was incensed at Uzza, and struck him down, because he laid a hand on the Aron; and so he died there before Hashem.
11David was distressed because Hashem had burst out against Uzza; and that place was named Perez-uzzah, as it is still called.
12David was afraid of Hashem that day; he said, “How can I bring the Aron of Hashem here?”
13So David did not remove the Aron to his place in the City of David; instead, he diverted it to the house of Oved Edom the Gittite.
14The Aron of Hashem remained in the house of Oved Edom, in its own abode, three months, and Hashem blessed the house of Oved Edom and all he had.
