Chapter 45

1Yosef could no longer control himself before all his attendants, and he cried out, “Have everyone withdraw from me!” So there was no one else about when Yosef made himself known to his brothers.

v'-LO ya-KHOL yo-SEF l'-hit-a-PEK l'-KOL ha-ni-tza-VEEM a-LAV, va-yik-RA ho-tzi-U kol-ISH me-a-LAI, v'-LO-a-MAD ISH i-TO b'-hit-va-DA yo-SEF el e-KHAI-u

אוְלֹֽא־יָכֹ֨ל יוֹסֵ֜ף לְהִתְאַפֵּ֗ק לְכֹ֤ל הַנִּצָּבִים֙ עָלָ֔יו וַיִּקְרָ֕א הוֹצִ֥יאוּ כׇל־אִ֖ישׁ מֵעָלָ֑י וְלֹא־עָ֤מַד אִישׁ֙ אִתּ֔וֹ בְּהִתְוַדַּ֥ע יוֹסֵ֖ף אֶל־אֶחָֽיו׃

2His sobs were so loud that the Egyptians could hear, and so the news reached Pharaoh's palace.

vai-YI-ten et-KO-lo bi-V'-khi va-yish-MU mitz-RA-yim va-yish-MA bayt par-OH

בוַיִּתֵּ֥ן אֶת־קֹל֖וֹ בִּבְכִ֑י וַיִּשְׁמְע֣וּ מִצְרַ֔יִם וַיִּשְׁמַ֖ע בֵּ֥ית פַּרְעֹֽה׃

3Yosef said to his brothers, “I am Yosef. Is my father still well?” But his brothers could not answer him, so dumfounded were they on account of him.

vai-YO-mer yo-SEF el e-KHA-yav, a-NEE yo-SEF, ha-OD a-VEE kha-YAI, v'-LO ya-KH'-LU e-KHA-yav la-a-NOT o-TO, KEE niv-ha-LU mi-pa-NAV

גוַיֹּ֨אמֶר יוֹסֵ֤ף אֶל־אֶחָיו֙ אֲנִ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף הַע֥וֹד אָבִ֖י חָ֑י וְלֹֽא־יָכְל֤וּ אֶחָיו֙ לַעֲנ֣וֹת אֹת֔וֹ כִּ֥י נִבְהֲל֖וּ מִפָּנָֽיו׃

4Then Yosef said to his brothers, “Come forward to me.” And when they came forward, he said, “I am your brother Yosef, he whom you sold into Egypt.

vai-YO-mer yo-SEF el e-KHAV, g'-SHU-na e-LAI, va-yi-GA-shu, va-YO-mer a-NEE yo-SEF a-KHE-khem, a-SHER m'-khar-TEM o-TEE mitz-RA-y'-MAH

דוַיֹּ֨אמֶר יוֹסֵ֧ף אֶל־אֶחָ֛יו גְּשׁוּ־נָ֥א אֵלַ֖י וַיִּגָּ֑שׁוּ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר אֲנִי֙ יוֹסֵ֣ף אֲחִיכֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁר־מְכַרְתֶּ֥ם אֹתִ֖י מִצְרָֽיְמָה׃

5Now, do not be distressed or reproach yourselves because you sold me hither; it was to save life that Hashem sent me ahead of you.

v'-a-TAH al-tay-a-tz'-VU v'-al yi-KHAR b'-ay-NAY-khem, kee-m'-khar-TEM o-TEE he-NAY, kee l'-mi-KHA-yah she-la-KHA-nee e-lo-HEEM lif-NAY-khem.

הוְעַתָּ֣ה ׀ אַל־תֵּעָ֣צְב֗וּ וְאַל־יִ֙חַר֙ בְּעֵ֣ינֵיכֶ֔ם כִּֽי־מְכַרְתֶּ֥ם אֹתִ֖י הֵ֑נָּה כִּ֣י לְמִֽחְיָ֔ה שְׁלָחַ֥נִי אֱלֹהִ֖ים לִפְנֵיכֶֽם׃

6It is now two years that there has been famine in the land, and there are still five years to come in which there shall be no yield from tilling.

ki-ZEH she-NA-ta-YIM ha-RA-av b'-KE-rev ha-A-retz v'-OD kha-MESH sha-NEEM a-SHER AYIN-kha-REESH v'-ka-TZEER

וכִּי־זֶ֛ה שְׁנָתַ֥יִם הָרָעָ֖ב בְּקֶ֣רֶב הָאָ֑רֶץ וְעוֹד֙ חָמֵ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֵין־חָרִ֖ישׁ וְקָצִֽיר׃

7Hashem has sent me ahead of you to ensure your survival on earth, and to save your lives in an extraordinary deliverance.

va-yish-la-KHAY-nee e-lo-HEEM lif-nay-KHEM la-SUM la-KHEM sh'-ay-REET ba-A-retz ul-ha-kha-YOT la-KHEM lif-lay-TAH g'-do-LAH

זוַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֤נִי אֱלֹהִים֙ לִפְנֵיכֶ֔ם לָשׂ֥וּם לָכֶ֛ם שְׁאֵרִ֖ית בָּאָ֑רֶץ וּלְהַחֲי֣וֹת לָכֶ֔ם לִפְלֵיטָ֖ה גְּדֹלָֽה׃

8So, it was not you who sent me here, but Hashem; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh, lord of all his household, and ruler over the whole land of Egypt.

v'-a-TAH lo a-TEM sh'-lakh-TEM o-TEE he-Nah, KEE ha-e-lo-HEEM, va-y'-see-MAY-nee l'-AV l'-fa-ROH u-l'-a-DON l'-KOL bay-TO, u-mo-SHEL b'-KOL E-retz mitz-RA-yim

חוְעַתָּ֗ה לֹֽא־אַתֶּ֞ם שְׁלַחְתֶּ֤ם אֹתִי֙ הֵ֔נָּה כִּ֖י הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיְשִׂימֵ֨נִֽי לְאָ֜ב לְפַרְעֹ֗ה וּלְאָדוֹן֙ לְכׇל־בֵּית֔וֹ וּמֹשֵׁ֖ל בְּכׇל־אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

9“Now, hurry back to my father and say to him: Thus says your son Yosef, ‘Hashem has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me without delay.

ma-HA-ru va-a-LU el a-VEE, va-a-mar-TEM e-LA-yu: KOH a-MAR, bin-KHA yo-SEF, sa-MA-ni e-lo-HIM l'-a-DON l'-KOL mitz-RA-yim, re-DAH e-LAI, al ta-a-MOD

טמַהֲרוּ֮ וַעֲל֣וּ אֶל־אָבִי֒ וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֣ם אֵלָ֗יו כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ בִּנְךָ֣ יוֹסֵ֔ף שָׂמַ֧נִי אֱלֹהִ֛ים לְאָד֖וֹן לְכׇל־מִצְרָ֑יִם רְדָ֥ה אֵלַ֖י אַֽל־תַּעֲמֹֽד׃

10You will dwell in the region of Goshen, where you will be near me—you and your children and your grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and all that is yours.

v'-ya-SHAV-ta b'-E-retz go-SHEN v'-ha-YI-ta ka-ROV e-LAI a-TAH u-va-NE-kha u-ve-NEI va-NE-kha u-tzo-NE-kha u-ve-kar-KHA v'-kol a-SHER-LAKh

יוְיָשַׁבְתָּ֣ בְאֶֽרֶץ־גֹּ֗שֶׁן וְהָיִ֤יתָ קָרוֹב֙ אֵלַ֔י אַתָּ֕ה וּבָנֶ֖יךָ וּבְנֵ֣י בָנֶ֑יךָ וְצֹאנְךָ֥ וּבְקָרְךָ֖ וְכׇל־אֲשֶׁר־לָֽךְ׃

11There I will provide for you—for there are yet five years of famine to come—that you and your household and all that is yours may not suffer want.'

v'-khil-KAL-tee o-T'-kha sham, kee-OD kha-MESH sha-NEEM ra-AV, PEN ti-v'-RAYSH a-TAH u-veit-KHA, v'-KOL a-SHER-lakh

יאוְכִלְכַּלְתִּ֤י אֹֽתְךָ֙ שָׁ֔ם כִּי־ע֛וֹד חָמֵ֥שׁ שָׁנִ֖ים רָעָ֑ב פֶּן־תִּוָּרֵ֛שׁ אַתָּ֥ה וּבֵֽיתְךָ֖ וְכׇל־אֲשֶׁר־לָֽךְ׃

12You can see for yourselves, and my brother Binyamin for himself, that it is indeed I who am speaking to you.

v'-hi-NEH ay-NAY-khem ro-OT v'-ay-NAY a-KHEE b'-ni-ya-MEEN, kee-fee ha-m'-da-BAYR a-lay-KHEM

יבוְהִנֵּ֤ה עֵֽינֵיכֶם֙ רֹא֔וֹת וְעֵינֵ֖י אָחִ֣י בִנְיָמִ֑ין כִּי־פִ֖י הַֽמְדַבֵּ֥ר אֲלֵיכֶֽם׃

13And you must tell my father everything about my high station in Egypt and all that you have seen; and bring my father here with all speed.”

v'-hi-GAD-tem l'-a-VEE et-KOL-k'-vo-DEE b'-mitz-RA-yim v'-ET kol-a-SHER r'-ee-TEM u-mi-HAR-tem v'-ho-ra-D'-tem et-a-VEE he-Na

יגוְהִגַּדְתֶּ֣ם לְאָבִ֗י אֶת־כׇּל־כְּבוֹדִי֙ בְּמִצְרַ֔יִם וְאֵ֖ת כׇּל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר רְאִיתֶ֑ם וּמִֽהַרְתֶּ֛ם וְהוֹרַדְתֶּ֥ם אֶת־אָבִ֖י הֵֽנָּה׃

14With that he embraced his brother Binyamin around the neck and wept, and Binyamin wept on his neck.

vai-YI-pol al tza-v'-RAY b'-ni-ya-MIN a-KHEE-vu vai-YAY-kh' u-vi-ya-MIN BA-kha al tza-va-a-RAV

ידוַיִּפֹּ֛ל עַל־צַוְּארֵ֥י בִנְיָמִֽן־אָחִ֖יו וַיֵּ֑בְךְּ וּבִ֨נְיָמִ֔ן בָּכָ֖ה עַל־צַוָּארָֽיו׃

15He kissed all his brothers and wept upon them; only then were his brothers able to talk to him.

vai-na-SHEK l'-KOL e-KHAV va-YE-k'-a-l'-HEM v'-a-kha-RAY khen di-B'-RU e-KHAV i-TO

טווַיְנַשֵּׁ֥ק לְכׇל־אֶחָ֖יו וַיֵּ֣בְךְּ עֲלֵהֶ֑ם וְאַ֣חֲרֵי כֵ֔ן דִּבְּר֥וּ אֶחָ֖יו אִתּֽוֹ׃

16The news reached Pharaoh's palace: “Yosef's brothers have come.” Pharaoh and his courtiers were pleased.

v'-ha-KOL nish-MA bAYT par-OH lay-MOR: ba-U a-KHAY yo-SEF, va-yi-TAV b'-ay-NAY par-OH u-v'-ay-NAY a-va-DAV

טזוְהַקֹּ֣ל נִשְׁמַ֗ע בֵּ֤ית פַּרְעֹה֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר בָּ֖אוּ אֲחֵ֣י יוֹסֵ֑ף וַיִּיטַב֙ בְּעֵינֵ֣י פַרְעֹ֔ה וּבְעֵינֵ֖י עֲבָדָֽיו׃

17And Pharaoh said to Yosef, “Say to your brothers, ‘Do as follows: load up your beasts and go at once to the land of Canaan.

va-YO-mer par-OH el yo-SEF, e-MOR el a-KHE-kha, zo-AT a-SU, ta-a-NU et b'-ir-KHEM, u-l'-KU-BO-u ar-TZA k'-NA-an

יזוַיֹּ֤אמֶר פַּרְעֹה֙ אֶל־יוֹסֵ֔ף אֱמֹ֥ר אֶל־אַחֶ֖יךָ זֹ֣את עֲשׂ֑וּ טַֽעֲנוּ֙ אֶת־בְּעִ֣ירְכֶ֔ם וּלְכוּ־בֹ֖אוּ אַ֥רְצָה כְּנָֽעַן׃

18Take your father and your households and come to me; I will give you the best of the land of Egypt and you shall live off the fat of the land.'

u-KE-khu et a-ve-KHEM v'-et ba-TE-khem u-BO-u e-LAI v'-et-NAH la-KHEM et tuv E-retz mitz-RA-yim v'-ikh-LU et-khe-LEV ha-A-retz

יחוּקְח֧וּ אֶת־אֲבִיכֶ֛ם וְאֶת־בָּתֵּיכֶ֖ם וּבֹ֣אוּ אֵלָ֑י וְאֶתְּנָ֣ה לָכֶ֗ם אֶת־טוּב֙ אֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם וְאִכְל֖וּ אֶת־חֵ֥לֶב הָאָֽרֶץ׃

19And you are bidden [to add], ‘Do as follows: take from the land of Egypt wagons for your children and your wives, and bring your father here.

v'-a-TAH tzu-VEE-ta zo-at a-SU, k'-KHU-la-KHEM me-E-retz mitz-RA-yim a-ga-LOT l'-ta-pe-KHEM v'-lin-she-KHEM u-n'-sa-TEM et a-vee-KHEM u-va-TEM.

יטוְאַתָּ֥ה צֻוֵּ֖יתָה זֹ֣את עֲשׂ֑וּ קְחוּ־לָכֶם֩ מֵאֶ֨רֶץ מִצְרַ֜יִם עֲגָל֗וֹת לְטַפְּכֶם֙ וְלִנְשֵׁיכֶ֔ם וּנְשָׂאתֶ֥ם אֶת־אֲבִיכֶ֖ם וּבָאתֶֽם׃

20And never mind your belongings, for the best of all the land of Egypt shall be yours.'”

v'-EY-ne-KHEM al-ta-KHOS al-k'-LEY-khem, kee-TOOV kol-E-retz mitz-RA-yim la-KHEM HU

כוְעֵ֣ינְכֶ֔ם אַל־תָּחֹ֖ס עַל־כְּלֵיכֶ֑ם כִּי־ט֛וּב כׇּל־אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם לָכֶ֥ם הֽוּא׃

21The sons of Yisrael did so; Yosef gave them wagons as Pharaoh had commanded, and he supplied them with provisions for the journey.

vai-ya-a-SU-khen b'-NAY yis-ra-AYL va-yi-TAYN la-HEM yo-SAYF a-ga-LOT al-PI par-O va-yi-TAYN la-HEM tze-DAH la-DA-rekh

כאוַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ־כֵן֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיִּתֵּ֨ן לָהֶ֥ם יוֹסֵ֛ף עֲגָל֖וֹת עַל־פִּ֣י פַרְעֹ֑ה וַיִּתֵּ֥ן לָהֶ֛ם צֵדָ֖ה לַדָּֽרֶךְ׃

22To each of them, moreover, he gave a change of clothing; but to Binyamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver and several changes of clothing.

l'-khu-LAM na-TAN la-ISH kha-lee-FOT se-ma-LOT u-l'-vin-ya-MIN na-TAN sh'-LOSH may-OT ke-SEF v'-kha-MESH kha-lee-FOT se-ma-LOT

כבלְכֻלָּ֥ם נָתַ֛ן לָאִ֖ישׁ חֲלִפ֣וֹת שְׂמָלֹ֑ת וּלְבִנְיָמִ֤ן נָתַן֙ שְׁלֹ֣שׁ מֵא֣וֹת כֶּ֔סֶף וְחָמֵ֖שׁ חֲלִפֹ֥ת שְׂמָלֹֽת׃

23And to his father he sent the following: ten he-asses laden with the best things of Egypt, and ten she-asses laden with grain, bread, and provisions for his father on the journey.

ul-a-VEE-v SHA-lakh k'-ZOT a-SA-ra kha-MO-reem no-s'-EEM mi-TUV mitz-RA-yim v'-E-set a-TO-not no-s'-A-tot BAR va-LE-khem u-ma-ZON l'-a-VEEV la-DA-rekh

כגוּלְאָבִ֞יו שָׁלַ֤ח כְּזֹאת֙ עֲשָׂרָ֣ה חֲמֹרִ֔ים נֹשְׂאִ֖ים מִטּ֣וּב מִצְרָ֑יִם וְעֶ֣שֶׂר אֲתֹנֹ֡ת נֹֽ֠שְׂאֹ֠ת בָּ֣ר וָלֶ֧חֶם וּמָז֛וֹן לְאָבִ֖יו לַדָּֽרֶךְ׃

24As he sent his brothers off on their way, he told them, “Do not be quarrelsome on the way.”

vai-sha-LAKH et-e-KHAV va-ye-LE-khu, va-YO-mer a-LE-hem: al-tir-G'-zu ba-da-REKH

כדוַיְשַׁלַּ֥ח אֶת־אֶחָ֖יו וַיֵּלֵ֑כוּ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֔ם אַֽל־תִּרְגְּז֖וּ בַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃

25They went up from Egypt and came to their father Yaakov in the land of Canaan.

vai-ya-a-LU mi-mitz-RA-yim, va-ya-VO-u E-retz k'-NA-an el ya-a-KOV a-vee-HEM

כהוַֽיַּעֲל֖וּ מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ אֶ֣רֶץ כְּנַ֔עַן אֶֽל־יַעֲקֹ֖ב אֲבִיהֶֽם׃

26And they told him, “Yosef is still alive; yes, he is ruler over the whole land of Egypt.” His heart went numb, for he did not believe them.

vai-YA-gi-DO lo lay-MOR: OD yo-SAYF kha-YAI, v'-ki-HU mo-SHAYL b'-KOL E-rets mitz-RA-yim, va-YA-fag li-VO ki LO he-e-MEEN la-HEM

כווַיַּגִּ֨דוּ ל֜וֹ לֵאמֹ֗ר ע֚וֹד יוֹסֵ֣ף חַ֔י וְכִֽי־ה֥וּא מֹשֵׁ֖ל בְּכׇל־אֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם וַיָּ֣פׇג לִבּ֔וֹ כִּ֥י לֹא־הֶאֱמִ֖ין לָהֶֽם׃

27But when they recounted all that Yosef had said to them, and when he saw the wagons that Yosef had sent to transport him, the spirit of their father Yaakov revived.

va-y'-da-B'-RU e-LAV AYT kol di-V'-RAY yo-SAYF a-SHER di-BER a-LAY-HEM va-YAR et ha-a-ga-LOT a-SHER sha-LAKH yo-SAYF la-SAYT o-TO va-t'-KHI ru-akh ya-a-KOV a-vee-HEM

כזוַיְדַבְּר֣וּ אֵלָ֗יו אֵ֣ת כׇּל־דִּבְרֵ֤י יוֹסֵף֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּ֣ר אֲלֵהֶ֔ם וַיַּרְא֙ אֶת־הָ֣עֲגָל֔וֹת אֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַ֥ח יוֹסֵ֖ף לָשֵׂ֣את אֹת֑וֹ וַתְּחִ֕י ר֖וּחַ יַעֲקֹ֥ב אֲבִיהֶֽם׃

28“Enough!” said Yisrael. “My son Yosef is still alive! I must go and see him before I die.”

va-YO-mer yis-ra-AYL rav od yo-SAYF b'-NEE kha-YI, el-KHA v'-er-E-nu b'-TE-rem a-MUT

כחוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל רַ֛ב עוֹד־יוֹסֵ֥ף בְּנִ֖י חָ֑י אֵֽלְכָ֥ה וְאֶרְאֶ֖נּוּ בְּטֶ֥רֶם אָמֽוּת׃
