1He then led me into the great hall. He measured the jambs, 6 amot on either side; such was the depth of each jamb.
vai-y'-vee-AY-nee el ha-hay-KHAL, va-YA-mod et ha-AY-leem, shaysh a-MOT ro-KHAV mi-PO, v'-shaysh a-MOT ro-KHAV mi-PO, ro-KHAV ha-o-HEL
אוַיְבִיאֵ֖נִי אֶל־הַהֵיכָ֑ל וַיָּ֣מׇד אֶת־הָאֵילִ֗ים שֵׁשׁ־אַמּ֨וֹת רֹ֧חַב מִפּ֛וֹ וְשֵׁשׁ־אַמּֽוֹת־רֹ֥חַב מִפּ֖וֹ רֹ֥חַב הָאֹֽהֶל׃
2The entrance was 10 amot wide, and the flanking walls of the entrance were each 5 amot wide. Next he measured the depth [of the hall], 40 amot, and the width, 20 amot.

בוְרֹ֣חַב הַפֶּ֘תַח֮ עֶ֣שֶׂר אַמּוֹת֒ וְכִתְפ֣וֹת הַפֶּ֔תַח חָמֵ֤שׁ אַמּוֹת֙ מִפּ֔וֹ וְחָמֵ֥שׁ אַמּ֖וֹת מִפּ֑וֹ וַיָּ֤מׇד אׇרְכּוֹ֙ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים אַמָּ֔ה וְרֹ֖חַב עֶשְׂרִ֥ים אַמָּֽה׃
3And then he entered the inner room. He measured each jamb of the entrance, 2 amot [deep]; the entrance itself, 6 amot across; and the width of [the flanking wall on either side of] the entrance, 7 amot.
u-VA la-f'-NEE-ma, va-YA-mod AYL ha-pe-TAKH sh'-TA-yim a-MOT, v'-ha-pe-TAKH shaysh a-MOT, v'-ro-KHAV ha-pe-TAKH SHE-va a-MOT.
גוּבָ֣א לִפְנִ֔ימָה וַיָּ֥מׇד אֵֽיל־הַפֶּ֖תַח שְׁתַּ֣יִם אַמּ֑וֹת וְהַפֶּ֙תַח֙ שֵׁ֣שׁ אַמּ֔וֹת וְרֹ֥חַב הַפֶּ֖תַח שֶׁ֥בַע אַמּֽוֹת׃
4Then he measured the depth, 20 amot; and the width at the inner end of the great hall was also 20 amot. And he said to me, “This is the Holy of Holies.”

דוַיָּ֨מׇד אֶת־אׇרְכּ֜וֹ עֶשְׂרִ֣ים אַמָּ֗ה וְרֹ֛חַב עֶשְׂרִ֥ים אַמָּ֖ה אֶל־פְּנֵ֣י הַהֵיכָ֑ל וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֔י זֶ֖ה קֹ֥דֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִֽׁים׃
5Then he measured the wall of the Temple. [It was] 6 amot [thick] on every side of the Temple, and the side-chamber measured 4 amot [across].
vai-YAMOD kir ha-BA-yit shesh a-MOT v'-ro-KHAV ha-tse-LA ar-BA a-MOT sa-VEEV sa-VEEV la-BA-yit sa-VEEV
הוַיָּ֥מׇד קִֽיר־הַבַּ֖יִת שֵׁ֣שׁ אַמּ֑וֹת וְרֹ֣חַב הַצֵּלָע֩ אַרְבַּ֨ע אַמּ֜וֹת סָבִ֧יב ׀ סָבִ֛יב לַבַּ֖יִת סָבִֽיב׃
6The side chambers were arranged one above the other, in 33 sections. All around, there were projections in the Temple wall to serve the side chambers as supports, so that [their] supports should not be the Temple wall itself.
v'-ha-tse-la-OT tse-LA el tse-LA sha-LOSH u-sh'-LO-sheem p'-a-MEEM u-va-OT ba-KIR a-SHER la-BA-yit la-tse-la-OT sa-VEEV sa-VEEV li-HYOT a-KHU-zim v'-lo yi-HU a-KHU-zim b'-KIR ha-BA-yit
ווְהַצְּלָעוֹת֩ צֵלָ֨ע אֶל־צֵלָ֜ע שָׁל֧וֹשׁ וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים פְּעָמִ֗ים וּ֠בָא֠וֹת בַּקִּ֨יר אֲשֶׁר־לַבַּ֧יִת לַצְּלָע֛וֹת סָבִ֥יב ׀ סָבִ֖יב לִהְי֣וֹת אֲחוּזִ֑ים וְלֹֽא־יִהְי֥וּ אֲחוּזִ֖ים בְּקִ֥יר הַבָּֽיִת׃
7The winding passage of the side chambers widened from story to story; and since the structure was furnished all over with winding passages from story to story, the structure itself became wider from story to story. It was by this means that one ascended from the bottom story to the top one by way of the middle one.
v'-ra-cha-VAH v'-no-s'-VAH l'-ma-a-LAH l'-ma-a-LAH la-tse-la-OT KEE mu-SAV ha-BA-yit l'-ma-a-LAH l'-ma-a-LAH sa-VEEV sa-VEEV la-BA-yit al KEN ro-KHAV la-BA-yit l'-ma-a-LAH v'-KEN ha-takh-TO-nah ya-a-LEH al ha-e-lyo-NAH la-tee-KHO-nah
זוְֽרָחֲבָ֡ה וְֽנָסְבָה֩ לְמַ֨עְלָה לְמַ֜עְלָה לַצְּלָע֗וֹת כִּ֣י מֽוּסַב־הַ֠בַּ֠יִת לְמַ֨עְלָה לְמַ֜עְלָה סָבִ֤יב ׀ סָבִיב֙ לַבַּ֔יִת עַל־כֵּ֥ן רֹחַב־לַבַּ֖יִת לְמָ֑עְלָה וְכֵ֧ן הַתַּחְתּוֹנָ֛ה יַעֲלֶ֥ה עַל־הָעֶלְיוֹנָ֖ה לַתִּיכוֹנָֽה׃
8I observed that the Temple was surrounded by a raised pavement—the foundations of the side chambers; its elevation was a rod's length, or 6 amot.
v'-ra-EE-tee la-ba-YIT go-BAH sa-VEEV sa-VEEV (mi-s'-DOT) [mu-s'-DOHT] ha-tse-la-OT m'-LO ha-ka-NEH shaysh a-MOT a-tsi-LAH
חוְרָאִ֧יתִי לַבַּ֛יִת גֹּ֖בַהּ סָבִ֣יב ׀ סָבִ֑יב (מיסדות) [מוּסְד֤וֹת] הַצְּלָעוֹת֙ מְל֣וֹ הַקָּנֶ֔ה שֵׁ֥שׁ אַמּ֖וֹת אַצִּֽילָה׃
9The outer wall of the side chamber was 5 amot thick, and that which served as a walk between the Temple's side chambers
RO-khav ha-KEER a-SHER la-tse-LA el ha-KHOOTS kha-MESH a-MOT va-a-SHER mu-NACH bayt tse-la-OT a-SHER la-BA-yit
טרֹ֣חַב הַקִּ֧יר אֲֽשֶׁר־לַצֵּלָ֛ע אֶל־הַח֖וּץ חָמֵ֣שׁ אַמּ֑וֹת וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר מֻנָּ֔ח בֵּ֥ית צְלָע֖וֹת אֲשֶׁ֥ר לַבָּֽיִת׃
10and the chamber complexes was 20 amot wide all around the Temple.
u-VEIN ha-le-sha-KHOT ro-KHAV es-ree-YIM a-MA sa-VEEV la-BA-yit sa-VEEV sa-VEEV
יוּבֵ֨ין הַלְּשָׁכ֜וֹת רֹ֣חַב עֶשְׂרִ֥ים אַמָּ֛ה סָבִ֥יב לַבַּ֖יִת סָבִ֥יב ׀ סָבִֽיב׃
11Of entrances to the side chambers giving on the walk, there was one entrance on the north side and one entrance on the south side; and the space of the walk was 5 amot thick all around.
u-fe-TAKH ha-tse-LA la-mu-NACH, pe-TAKH e-KHAD DE-rekh ha-tsa-FON, u-fe-TAKH e-KHAD la-da-ROM, ve-ro-KHAV me-KOM ha-mu-NACH, kha-MESH a-MOT sa-VEEV sa-VEEV.
יאוּפֶ֤תַח הַצֵּלָע֙ לַמֻּנָּ֔ח פֶּ֤תַח אֶחָד֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ הַצָּפ֔וֹן וּפֶ֥תַח אֶחָ֖ד לַדָּר֑וֹם וְרֹ֙חַב֙ מְק֣וֹם הַמֻּנָּ֔ח חָמֵ֥שׁ אַמּ֖וֹת סָבִ֥יב ׀ סָבִֽיב׃
12And the structure that fronted on the vacant space at the [Temple's] western end was 70 amot deep; the walls of the structure were 5 amot thick on every side; and it was 90 amot wide.
v'-ha-bi-NYAN a-SHER el p'-NAY ha-giz-RAH p'-AT de-REKH ha-YAM ro-KHAV shi-VI-IM a-MAH v'-KIR ha-bi-NYAN cha-MAYSH a-MOT ro-KHAV sa-VEEV sa-VEEV v'-or-KO tish-I-IM a-MAH
יבוְהַבִּנְיָ֡ן אֲשֶׁר֩ אֶל־פְּנֵ֨י הַגִּזְרָ֜ה פְּאַ֣ת דֶּֽרֶךְ־הַיָּ֗ם רֹ֚חַב שִׁבְעִ֣ים אַמָּ֔ה וְקִ֧יר הַבִּנְיָ֛ן חָמֵשׁ־אַמּ֥וֹת רֹ֖חַב סָבִ֣יב ׀ סָבִ֑יב וְאׇרְכּ֖וֹ תִּשְׁעִ֥ים אַמָּֽה׃
13He measured the [total] depth of the Temple, 100 amot; and the depth of the vacant space and of the structure, with its walls, also came to 100 amot.
u-ma-DAD et ha-BA-yit o-REKH me-a AM-ma, v'-ha-giz-RAH v'-ha-bin-YAH v'-ki-RO-te-ha o-REKH me-a AM-ma.
יגוּמָדַ֣ד אֶת־הַבַּ֔יִת אֹ֖רֶךְ מֵאָ֣ה אַמָּ֑ה וְהַגִּזְרָ֤ה וְהַבִּנְיָה֙ וְקִ֣ירוֹתֶ֔יהָ אֹ֖רֶךְ מֵאָ֥ה אַמָּֽה׃
14The front side of the Temple, like the vacant space on the east, was 100 amot wide.
v'-ro-KHAV p'-NEI ha-BA-yit v'-ha-giz-RAH la-ka-DIM me-a AM-mah
ידוְרֹ֩חַב֩ פְּנֵ֨י הַבַּ֧יִת וְהַגִּזְרָ֛ה לַקָּדִ֖ים מֵאָ֥ה אַמָּֽה׃
15He also measured the width of the structure facing the vacant space in the rear, inclusive of its ledges, 100 amot. Both the great hall inside and the portico next to the court—
u-ma-DAD o-REKH ha-bi-NYAN el-PE-nei ha-giz-RA a-SHER al-a-kha-RE-ha (v'-a-tu-ki-HA) [v'-a-ti-KE-ha] mi-PO u-mi-PO me-a a-MAH v'-ha-HE-khal ha-pe-NI-mi v'-u-la-MEI he-cha-TZEIR
טווּמָדַ֣ד אֹֽרֶךְ־הַ֠בִּנְיָ֠ן אֶל־פְּנֵ֨י הַגִּזְרָ֜ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר עַל־אַחֲרֶ֧יהָ (ואתוקיהא) [וְאַתִּיקֶ֛יהָא] מִפּ֥וֹ וּמִפּ֖וֹ מֵאָ֣ה אַמָּ֑ה וְהַהֵיכָל֙ הַפְּנִימִ֔י וְאֻלַמֵּ֖י הֶחָצֵֽר׃
16the thresholds—and the windows with frames and the ledges at the threshold, all over the three parts of each, were completely overlaid with wood. There was wainscoting from the floor to the windows, including the window [frame]s
ha-SI-pim v'-ha-cha-LO-nim ha-a-tu-MOT v'-ha-a-TI-kim sa-VEEV lish-lo-SHAM ne-GED ha-SAF se-KHEEF AYTZ sa-VEEV v'-ha-A-retz ad ha-cha-LO-not v'-ha-cha-LO-not m'-ku-SOT
טזהַסִּפִּ֡ים וְהַחַלּוֹנִ֣ים הָ֠אֲטֻמ֠וֹת וְהָֽאַתִּיקִ֤ים ׀ סָבִיב֙ לִשְׁלׇשְׁתָּ֔ם נֶ֧גֶד הַסַּ֛ף שְׂחִ֥יף עֵ֖ץ סָבִ֣יב ׀ סָבִ֑יב וְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ עַד־הַֽחַלּוֹנ֔וֹת וְהַחַלֹּנ֖וֹת מְכֻסּֽוֹת׃
17and extending above the openings, both in the inner Temple and outside. And all over the wall, both in the inner one and in the outer, ran a pattern.
al-m'-AL ha-pe-TAKH v'-ad ha-BA-yit ha-pe-NI-mee v'-la-KHUTZ v'-el-KOL ha-KIR sa-VEEV sa-VEEV ba-pe-NI-mee u-va-KHEE-tzon mi-DOT
יזעַל־מֵעַ֣ל הַפֶּ֡תַח וְעַד־הַבַּ֩יִת֩ הַפְּנִימִ֨י וְלַח֜וּץ וְאֶל־כׇּל־הַקִּ֨יר סָבִ֧יב ׀ סָבִ֛יב בַּפְּנִימִ֥י וּבַחִיצ֖וֹן מִדּֽוֹת׃
18It consisted of cherubs and palm trees, with a palm tree between every two cherubs. Each cherub had two faces:
v'-a-SUY k'-ru-VEEM v'-ti-mo-REEM v'-ti-mo-RAH bayn k'-RUV likh-RUV ush-NA-yim pa-NEEM la-k'-RUV
יחוְעָשׂ֥וּי כְּרוּבִ֖ים וְתִמֹרִ֑ים וְתִֽמֹרָה֙ בֵּין־כְּר֣וּב לִכְר֔וּב וּשְׁנַ֥יִם פָּנִ֖ים לַכְּרֽוּב׃

Methuselah date plam tree
On the walls of the inner and outer chambers of the Beit Hamikdash in Yechezkel’s vision are cherubs and palm trees. These two items also appear in Shlomo’s Temple (II Kings 6:29-36). The significance of the cherubs as dividers between mankind and God has been discussed in chapter 10. The palm tree symbolizes both righteousness (Psalms 92:13) and longevity. In fact, in 2005, a date palm was successfully grown from a two-thousand-year-old seed found on Masada, becoming the oldest seed ever to be brought back to life. The tree, nicknamed “Methuselah” after the longest-living figure in the Bible (Genesis 5:27), is now over two meters tall and has sprouted flowers. Ancient Judean dates were known to have healing properties and Israeli researchers are hoping that Methuselah will also have medicinal qualities that will benefit future generations.
19a human face turned toward the palm tree on one side and a lion's face turned toward the palm tree on the other side. This was repeated all over the Temple;

יטוּפְנֵ֨י אָדָ֤ם אֶל־הַתִּֽמֹרָה֙ מִפּ֔וֹ וּפְנֵי־כְפִ֥יר אֶל־הַתִּמֹרָ֖ה מִפּ֑וֹ עָשׂ֥וּי אֶל־כׇּל־הַבַּ֖יִת סָבִ֥יב ׀ סָבִֽיב׃
20the cherubs and the palm trees were carved on the wall from the floor to above the openings. As regards the great hall,
me-ha-A-retz ad-may-al ha-pe-TAKH ha-ke-ru-VIM v'-ha-ti-mo-RIM a-su-YIM v'-KIR ha-HEI-khol
כמֵהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ עַד־מֵעַ֣ל הַפֶּ֔תַח הַכְּרוּבִ֥ים וְהַתִּמֹרִ֖ים עֲשׂוּיִ֑ם וְקִ֖יר הַׄהֵׄיׄכָֽׄלׄ׃
21the great hall had four doorposts; and before the Shrine was something resembling
ha-HE-khal m'-zu-ZAT r'-BU-a u-f'-NAY ha-ko-DAYSH ha-mar-EH ka-mar-EH
כאהַהֵיכָ֖ל מְזוּזַ֣ת רְבֻעָ֑ה וּפְנֵ֣י הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ הַמַּרְאֶ֖ה כַּמַּרְאֶֽה׃
22a wooden mizbayach 3 amot high and 2 amot long and having inner corners; and its length and its walls were of wood. And he said to me, “This is the table that stands before Hashem.”

כבהַמִּזְבֵּ֡חַ עֵ֣ץ שָׁלוֹשׁ֩ אַמּ֨וֹת גָּבֹ֜הַּ וְאׇרְכּ֣וֹ שְׁתַּֽיִם־אַמּ֗וֹת וּמִקְצֹֽעוֹתָיו֙ ל֔וֹ וְאׇרְכּ֥וֹ וְקִירֹתָ֖יו עֵ֑ץ וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אֵלַ֔י זֶ֚ה הַשֻּׁלְחָ֔ן אֲשֶׁ֖ר לִפְנֵ֥י יְהֹוָֽה׃
23The great hall had a double door, and the Shrine likewise had
u-sh'-ta-YIM d'-LA-tot la-he-KHAL v'-la-ko-DAYSH
כגוּשְׁתַּ֧יִם דְּלָת֛וֹת לַהֵיכָ֖ל וְלַקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃
24a double door, and each door had two swinging leaves: two for the one door and two such leaves for the other.
u-sh'-TA-yim d'-LA-tot la-d'-LA-tot sh'-TA-yim mu-sa-BOt d'-LA-tot sh'-TA-yim l'-DE-let e-KHAT u-sh'-TEI d'-LA-tot la-a-KHE-ret
כדוּשְׁתַּ֥יִם דְּלָת֖וֹת לַדְּלָת֑וֹת שְׁ֚תַּיִם מֽוּסַבּ֣וֹת דְּלָת֔וֹת שְׁ֚תַּיִם לְדֶ֣לֶת אֶחָ֔ת וּשְׁתֵּ֥י דְלָת֖וֹת לָאַחֶֽרֶת׃
25Cherubs and palm trees were carved on these—on the doors of the hall—just as they were carved on the walls; and there was a lattice of wood outside in front of the portico.
va-a-su-YA a-lay-HEN el dal-TOT ha-HEY-khal k'-ru-VIM v'-ti-mo-RIM ka-a-SHER a-su-YIM la-ki-ROT v'-AV a-TZ el p'-NAY ha-u-LAM me-ha-KHUtz
כהוַעֲשׂוּיָ֨ה אֲלֵיהֶ֜ן אֶל־דַּלְת֤וֹת הַהֵיכָל֙ כְּרוּבִ֣ים וְתִמֹרִ֔ים כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר עֲשׂוּיִ֖ם לַקִּיר֑וֹת וְעָ֥ב עֵ֛ץ אֶל־פְּנֵ֥י הָאוּלָ֖ם מֵהַחֽוּץ׃
26And there were windows with frames and palm trees on the flanking walls of the portico on either side [of the entrance] and [on] the Temple's side chambers and [on] the lattices.
v'-kha-lo-NEEM a-tu-MOT v'-ti-MO-reem mi-PO u-mi-PO el kit-FOT ha-u-LAM v'-tzal-OT ha-BA-yit v'-ha-u-BEEM
כווְחַלּוֹנִ֨ים אֲטֻמ֤וֹת וְתִֽמֹרִים֙ מִפּ֣וֹ וּמִפּ֔וֹ אֶל־כִּתְפ֖וֹת הָאוּלָ֑ם וְצַלְע֥וֹת הַבַּ֖יִת וְהָעֻבִּֽים׃
