Conocida como Pentecost\u00e9s en griego, es la \u00fanica fiesta jud\u00eda cuya fecha no se indica expl\u00edcitamente en la Biblia. En su lugar, la Biblia ordena al pueblo de Israel que cuente siete semanas a partir del segundo d\u00eda de la Pascua, y el d\u00eda siguiente, el quincuag\u00e9simo, es la fiesta de <em>Shavuot<\/em>. En <em>Shavuot<\/em>, que cae el 6\u00ba d\u00eda del mes hebreo de Siv\u00e1n, Dios entreg\u00f3 los Diez Mandamientos a los hijos de Israel.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los 49 d\u00edas entre la Pascua y <em>Shavuot <\/em>se cuentan en un ritual diario en previsi\u00f3n del gran d\u00eda en que Dios entreg\u00f3 la Biblia al pueblo de Israel. <em>Shavuot<\/em> se celebra tradicionalmente permaneciendo despierto toda la noche y estudiando la Biblia y otros textos sagrados hasta que sale el sol a la ma\u00f1ana siguiente.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Shavuot<\/em> tambi\u00e9n significa \u00abjuramentos\u00bb, pues cuando Dios entreg\u00f3 la Tor\u00e1 al pueblo de Israel le prometi\u00f3 Su devoci\u00f3n, y \u00e9ste, a su vez, se comprometi\u00f3 a seguir Sus mandamientos. Del mismo modo, <em>Be&#8217;er Sheva<\/em>, ciudad del sur de Israel, significa \u00abPozo de los Juramentos\u00bb, pues fue all\u00ed donde Abraham y el rey Abiimelec hicieron votos de paz tras discutir sobre la leg\u00edtima propiedad de los pozos de aquella zona. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La palabra <em>shavuot<\/em> deriva de la palabra hebrea <em>sheva<\/em>, que significa \u00absiete\u00bb, el n\u00famero de d\u00edas de una semana. A diferencia de la duraci\u00f3n de un a\u00f1o y del mes lunar, que se basan en el sol y la luna, la duraci\u00f3n de una semana no tiene nada de natural.
