Arque\u00f3logos de Israel descubrieron pruebas de hace casi tres mil a\u00f1os que demuestran la existencia de Gedaliah, un personaje relativamente menor mencionado en la Biblia, cuya vida siguen conmemorando hasta hoy los jud\u00edos todos los a\u00f1os mediante un d\u00eda de ayuno anual.<\/p>\n\n
El Ayuno de Gedaliah, Tzom Gedalya<\/em> (\u05e6\u05d5\u05b9\u05dd \u05d2\u05b0\u05bc\u05d3\u05b7\u05dc\u05b0\u05d9\u05b8\u05d4) en hebreo, es un d\u00eda de ayuno jud\u00edo menor, desde el amanecer hasta el anochecer, para lamentar el asesinato de Gedaliah, el justo gobernador de Jud\u00e1. Su muerte puso fin a la autonom\u00eda jud\u00eda tras la destrucci\u00f3n del Primer Templo. <\/p>\n\n Gedal\u00edas hijo de Ajicam fue nombrado por los babilonios gobernador de Jud\u00e1 tras la destrucci\u00f3n de Jerusal\u00e9n. Una peque\u00f1a banda de fan\u00e1ticos jud\u00edos, dirigida por Ismael hijo de Netan\u00edas, se aprovech\u00f3 de la hospitalidad de Gedal\u00edas y lo asesin\u00f3 en Rosh Hashan\u00e1<\/em>, el a\u00f1o nuevo jud\u00edo. Como resultado, los pocos jud\u00edos que quedaban en Israel huyeron a Egipto para evitar la venganza del ej\u00e9rcito babil\u00f3nico, librando a Tierra Santa de la presencia jud\u00eda durante el resto del exilio babil\u00f3nico. La muerte del \u00faltimo dirigente jud\u00edo de Israel marc\u00f3 el final de la Primera Comunidad Israelita.
