32:22   Hashem delivered Chizkiyahu and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim

Chizkiyahu was one of the greatest Jewish kings of all time. He abolished idolatry and improper worship and brought the people back to Hashem. The Sages teach that Chizkiyahu was so great that God considered making him the Mashiach, but decided not to, since Chizkiyahu failed to sing songs of praise to Hashem after being miraculously saved from Sennacherib’s siege of Yerushalayim. Surely Chizkiyahu recognized and appreciated the miracle that God had done for him and the people. Yet his faith in Hashem was so strong, and he was so confident in God’s salvation, that he was not surprised by the miracle and therefore not moved to sing songs of praise. This failure to sing to Hashem in praise of the great miracle was the reason he forfeited the possibility of becoming the Messiah. God performs miracles on a daily basis in the personal lives of every individual and for the Nation of Israel living in the Land of Israel. We must never take His blessings for granted.

  • It constantly amazes me how these kings turn away from obeying Hashem, Hezekiah stands out as one who truly does follow and keep the laws given through Moshe. it's almost like the sons are rebelling against their fathers. Much the same today really isn't it! It shows perhaps more than the rebellion however that one's personal faith is indeed making an individual choice to follow Hashem, we don't get carried into the Kingdowm of G-d on our father's faith. At some stage these sons of the kings had thought 'I'll do it better/different to my father. pride comes before a fall every time. To their credit though most of them realize their mistakes, and as He always does Hashem hears from heaven.
