View of Shomron

Yehoshafat visits Achav in Samaria, known in Hebrew as Shomron (שומרון). The city of Samaria was purchased by Achav’s father Omri to be the capital of the kingdom of Yisrael (I Kings 16:24), and is an important part of both the biblical heartLand of Israel and the modern State of Israel. Today, the area known as Samaria comprises over 11% of the modern State of Israel and is home to many vibrant communities including Ariel, Karnei Shomron, Elon Moreh and Itamar. Since it is located in the middle of Israel, Samaria plays a vital role in the spirituality, economics and security of the country. Though Omri sinned greatly in his religious conduct, his acquisition of the Shomron was of great national importance both in his time and today.
