15:15   For they swore with all their heart

Asa leads the people of Yehuda and Binyamin to recommit themselves wholeheartedly to God. They understand that to find Hashem, and for Him to remain with them, they must swear their absolute loyalty to Him. As such, Asa gathers the people together in Yerushalayim where they make an oath to serve Hashem, renewing the covenant first established by Moshe at Mount Sinai. In turn, God makes Himself available to them and grants them peace in the land.

  • Ah!!! HaShem is the G-d of second chances.. if ever we needed proof we need look no further than Asa's reign. It's a strange thing isn't it, when things are going well it's so easy to turn away from the things of G-d, but how quickly we come back when things don't go to plan [our plans not G-d's] But HaShem is faithful to the uttermost to the covenant made with Moses and to us. He understands our weaknesses and failures – I love the phrase and I quote "… God makes Himself available…". In an earlier chapter of Chronicles [2Chronicles 7] there is a list of situations that we might find ourselves in and each time, when there is repentance, G-d says that 'He will hear from heaven' and forgive us.

The other thing I notice is that the people are keen to follow their king, into battle if need be, and to recommit their lives to G-d. Leaders are constrained to lead well from the front, how many nations have foundered as the consequence of bad leadership.
