15:3   David assembled all Yisrael in Yerushalayim

David summoned the entire Nation of Israel to bring the Aron HaBrit to its place in the heart of Yerushalayim. Such a public demonstration was necessary because this was a truly momentous event: King David was bringing the spiritual center, or focal point, of the people to the spiritual center of the land. This highlights the never-ending bond between the People of Israel and the Land of Israel, which is cemented by their covenant with the God of Israel.

  • What an amazing man David must have been, and how truly committed he was to keeping the covenant he had made, not just upholding the one made with Abraham, but by extension he has expanded the covenant so that the nation as a whole knew they were included in the covenant. There can be no doubt that he did little without seeking the counsel of God. A man who understood sin and also the joy of forgiveness, is there any wonder that he involved the whole of the nation to bring the Ark 'home' to Jerusalem.

Perhaps there were other's like Michal who scoffed, they missed out on so much. Oh! to have a heart like his!
